Paris deploys 4,000 police for high-risk France-Israel match after Amsterdam violence

Paris has planned to deploy 4,000 police officers and 1,600 stadium staff for heightened security at Thursday’s France-Israel UEFA Nations League match, following violent attacks on Israeli fans in Amsterdam.

Paris has planned to deploy 4,000 police officers and 1,600 stadium staff for heightened security at Thursday’s France-Israel UEFA Nations League match, following violent attacks on Israeli fans in Amsterdam.

The French government is taking extra precautions after antisemitic incidents at last week’s match, where Dutch authorities arrested dozens in connection with the assaults.

“This match is high-risk, given the context and tensions,” said Paris police chief Laurent Nuñez, emphasizing that authorities would not tolerate violence. A robust security perimeter will be set up around the Stade de France, with anti-terrorism measures, including mandatory bag searches and pat-downs.

The match will be attended by French President Emmanuel Macron, who aims to show solidarity with Israel in the wake of the Amsterdam attacks. The incident last week saw Israeli supporters assaulted by a mob, sparking widespread condemnation of antisemitism across Europe.

French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau confirmed that the match would proceed as planned, stressing the importance of upholding the values of sports amid such tensions. Macron’s presence at the game is also a message of fraternity and support following the violence.
