The Israeli military confirmed late Saturday that Sergeant Zamir Burke, a squad commander in the 601st Combat Engineering Battalion, was killed in ground battles in the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza.
According to Israeli media, Burke lost his life on Friday during what has been described as “fierce and sustained combat” in the densely populated area.
“We mourn the loss of Sergeant Zamir Burke, a brave soldier who served with distinction,” the Israeli army said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with his family and comrades during this difficult time.”

The Israeli army also reported additional casualties in Gaza on Saturday, confirming one soldier killed and two others injured during operations. A senior Israeli official stated, “These sacrifices underline the severity of the mission we are undertaking to neutralize the Hamas threat and ensure the safety of our citizens.”
In Gaza, the Ministry of Health provided devastating updates on civilian losses. “As of today, at least 44,382 Palestinians have been killed and 105,142 others injured since the start of this brutal war on October 7,” a ministry spokesperson said. “The numbers keep rising as the Israeli military continues its indiscriminate bombardment.”
Despite the mounting casualties, Israel has yet to achieve its declared goals of dismantling the Hamas Resistance movement and securing the release of captives held in Gaza. Palestinian officials described the ongoing violence as “a genocide against our people.”
Israel’s strategy has faced growing scrutiny from international observers. “Even with these relentless attacks, Israel has not succeeded in breaking the resistance of Gaza,” said a Palestinian analyst speaking to local media. “The spirit of the Palestinian people remains unbroken, despite the unimaginable losses.”
As the conflict rages on, global leaders have called for an urgent ceasefire to prevent further loss of life. However, both sides remain entrenched in their positions, with no immediate resolution in sight.
