Elon Musk has funded a super PAC weeks before the election, using $20.5 million to portray Donald Trump’s abortion stance as comparable to that of the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Federal filings revealed that the RBG PAC received its sole contribution from Musk’s “Elon Musk Revocable Trust” in late October. The billionaire remained silent about his involvement until the filings became public.

The PAC’s ad highlighted Trump’s statements rejecting a national abortion ban while supporting “reasonable exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother.” The narrator noted, “President Trump believes in protecting life while balancing compassion.” This stance was juxtaposed with Ginsburg’s belief that the Constitution protected abortion rights. Ginsburg had also remarked in 2012 that *Roe v. Wade* “moved too far too fast,” a sentiment often invoked in debates about abortion’s legal trajectory.

Trump, who appointed three justices instrumental in overturning *Roe v. Wade* in 2022, became a focal point in the battle over abortion rights. “Trump’s decisions shaped the court, but this ad paints a nuanced picture,” said a political analyst.

Musk’s PAC spent most of its funding on digital ads, mailers, and text messages, aiming to engage undecided voters. Meanwhile, his broader political efforts through America PAC included ads warning, “If you don’t vote, Kamala and the crazies will win.”

The filings coincided with Musk and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy’s Capitol Hill meetings about Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Trump tasked them with identifying ways to cut federal programs and regulations. “This is about streamlining government,” Ramaswamy said.

Musk’s $200 million total contributions during the 2024 election highlight the growing influence of billionaires in U.S. politics. A Trump ally described Musk’s involvement as “pivotal,” while critics called it “an unprecedented level of political engineering.”
