Sen. Sepúlveda Appointed Chair of Senate Judiciary Committee, Makes History as First Latino

New York State Senator Luis R. Sepúlveda has been appointed Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, making history as the first Latino to lead the influential panel responsible for shaping judicial policy and strengthening the rule of law.
The appointment was made by Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, who is herself the first woman and first African American to lead the New York State Senate.
Reacting to his appointment, Sepúlveda expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him and described the role as a significant responsibility.
“I am grateful to have been appointed Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, becoming the first Latino to lead this influential committee, which plays a key role in shaping judicial policy and strengthening the rule of law,” he said.
He noted that the appointment reflects a broader commitment to inclusive leadership, legislative excellence and equitable access to justice for all New Yorkers.
