Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of Delhi, has proposed Atishi as the next leader of the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Delhi Legislative Party, positioning her to become the next Chief Minister of the national capital.
This move, approved unanimously by AAP MLAs, marks the return of a woman to the post of Delhi’s Chief Minister after a decade.
Atishi, known for her influential role in the government, currently oversees 13 portfolios, a testament to her growing stature within the party. Her selection is seen as a reflection of her extensive responsibilities and her steady rise within AAP. Party insiders highlighted her importance, noting a pivotal moment when Kejriwal, while in jail, nominated her to hoist the national flag on his behalf during the Independence Day function—a role that was later assigned to Minister Kailash Gahlot by Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena.

Her rise to the Chief Ministership not only marks a milestone for her career but also signals a new chapter for Delhi’s political landscape.
