Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani landed in New York on Saturday, ready to take center stage at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 79). His participation comes at a critical time as global leaders convene to address pressing international issues.

During his visit, Al-Sudani is set to deliver key speeches at the UNGA and participate in the Summit of the Future, which takes place over the weekend. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) confirmed that Al-Sudani will engage with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and other high-ranking officials to discuss Iraq’s role in global governance.

The Summit of the Future aims to tackle the ongoing impacts of conflict and global health crises while emphasizing the necessity for enhanced international collaboration to confront urgent challenges such as poverty, inequality, and climate change.

“This summit highlights the urgent need for improved international collaboration,” the PMO noted, reflecting the Prime Minister’s commitment to engaging with global leaders on these critical issues.

From September 23 to 27, the UN Department of Global Communications will host its SDG Media Zone, featuring in-depth interviews and discussions on vital global topics.
