President Xi Jinping has urged China’s industrial workers to play a pivotal role in the country’s manufacturing ambitions and the revitalization of the northeast. In a reply letter to workers from China First Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. (CFHI), a major equipment manufacturer in Qiqihar City, Heilongjiang Province, Xi emphasized the importance of their contributions in the nation’s broader economic goals.
“Industrial workers should contribute their wisdom and strength to building a strong manufacturing nation and promoting the full revitalization of northeast China,” Xi remarked in his letter. His message comes as the country intensifies efforts to revive its northeastern provinces, historically a major industrial base that has faced economic challenges in recent years.
As general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, Xi’s remarks reflect the government’s strategic focus on bolstering domestic manufacturing capabilities amid global competition and technological advancement. CFHI, known for its role in heavy machinery and equipment manufacturing, is symbolic of the industrial power that the region once wielded and is now seeking to recapture.

Xi’s letter to CFHI workers highlights the crucial role of innovation and dedication from the industrial sector in ensuring China remains a global manufacturing leader. His encouragement serves as a rallying cry for the labor force to support the broader revitalization efforts underway in the northeast—an area often referred to as China’s “rust belt” due to its past industrial dominance and subsequent decline.
The revitalization of northeast China, comprising Heilongjiang, Jilin, and Liaoning provinces, is seen as a critical step in ensuring balanced regional development across the country. Xi’s call aligns with the central government’s larger economic goals of enhancing high-tech manufacturing, reducing reliance on foreign technologies, and fostering a self-sustaining industrial ecosystem.
Xi’s message to CFHI and the wider workforce underscores the critical rAole industrial workers will play in shaping the future of China’s manufacturing and economic landscape. With the northeast region at the heart of this effort, Xi’s vision reflects both a tribute to the region’s industrial heritage and an ambitious roadmap for its future.
