The Government of Bangladesh has expressed “utter dismay and deep sense of hurt” over a recent statement issued by India’s Ministry of External Affairs regarding an internal matter involving the arrest of Sri Chinmoy Krishna Das.
In a press release issued on November 26, 2024, the government addressed the arrest, clarifying that Sri Chinmoy Krishna Das was detained on specific charges, and asserted that outside commentary on the case was unfounded.
The statement emphasized that misrepresentations about the arrest not only distort facts but also run counter to the spirit of friendship and mutual understanding between Bangladesh and India. “Such unfounded statements not only misrepresent facts but also stand contrary to the spirit of friendship and understanding between the two neighboring countries,” noted the Government of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh underscored its commitment to religious harmony, pointing out that the country fosters peace and respect among all faiths.
The government highlighted that it does not condone impunity for any perpetrators of human rights violations, regardless of the victim’s religious identity.
“The Government of Bangladesh is determined to conclusively end the culture of impunity to the perpetrators of gross human rights violations against the people of Bangladesh, thus treating the religious majority and minorities alike,” the statement read.
Additionally, Bangladesh reaffirmed that every citizen, irrespective of religious identity, has the right to practice their faith freely and securely. The peaceful observance of Durga Puja last month was highlighted as an example of the nation’s commitment to protecting religious freedom.
In light of concerns over Advocate Saiful Islam Alif’s tragic killing in Chattogram earlier today, the government stated it is enhancing security measures in the city.
“Authorities have stepped up security in the port city to ensure that religious harmony is maintained at any cost,” the government assured.
Bangladesh further noted the independence of its judiciary, stressing that “the country’s judiciary is fully independent and it does not interfere in the work of the judiciary. The matter under question is at present being dealt with by the court of law.” This statement underscored Bangladesh’s stance on upholding justice and its non-interference in judicial proceedings.
The government concluded by reiterating its dedication to upholding peace and communal harmony within its borders, ensuring that the rights of all citizens are safeguarded.
