President Joe Biden orders the deployment of 500 more active-duty troops to aid in recovery efforts in Western North Carolina following the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene.
The information comes directly from President Joe Biden’s official statement, released by the White House on October 6, 2024.
Biden emphasized the federal government’s comprehensive response, highlighting the administration’s commitment to providing the necessary resources for affected communities.
“Since before Hurricane Helene made landfall, my Administration has mobilized an intensive Federal response to ensure impacted communities have the resources and support they need,” Biden said. In response to a request from North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, the total number of active-duty troops assisting in the state now stands at 1,500. These troops are bolstering a large-scale recovery effort that includes over 6,100 National Guardsmen and more than 7,000 federal personnel.
Biden’s statement comes as recovery efforts in North Carolina ramp up, with advanced technological assets being deployed to aid in response operations. The president affirmed that “my Administration is sparing no resource to support families as they begin their road to rebuilding.”
Looking ahead, Biden also expressed concern about Tropical Storm Milton, which is gathering strength in the Gulf of Mexico. He assured that his administration is prepositioning life-saving resources ahead of the storm’s potential landfall in Florida. “I urge all residents in Florida to listen to local officials and make preparations as needed,” he cautioned, underscoring the importance of early action.
In his statement, the president reiterated the federal government’s unwavering support, regardless of the duration of the recovery process. “As part of my Administration’s solemn obligation to stand with impacted communities as they rebuild their lives, we will continue working hand-in-hand with local and state leaders – regardless of political party and no matter how long it takes,” Biden pledged.
