A Manhattan judge has agreed to postpone key rulings on former President Donald Trump’s conviction and sentencing, offering prosecutors time to consider next steps in light of the 2024 presidential election outcome.
Judge Juan Merchan, in a letter to prosecutors on Tuesday, allowed them one week to determine their position regarding Trump’s potential sentencing. According to an NBC News report, the decision follows Trump’s conviction in May on 34 felony counts linked to hush-money payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
Trump, initially set to be sentenced on Nov. 26, is now pushing for dismissal of the case through his legal team, leveraging the election results as part of his defense.
