Argentine authorities have arrested a Nigerian national, Ikechukwu N., marking the country’s first-ever capture of a fugitive listed under both INTERPOL’s Red Notice and the newly introduced Silver Notice.

According to a statement posted on INTERPOL’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the suspect is accused of orchestrating multiple romance scams that defrauded thousands of women worldwide and of leading an international cybercrime network.

The arrest was made as part of Operation Jackal, an INTERPOL-coordinated initiative targeting West African organized criminal groups involved in cyber fraud, money laundering, and related transnational crimes.

The successful operation was jointly carried out by Argentina’s Federal Police (PFA) and the Airport Security Police (PSA), with crucial support from the INTERPOL Financial Crime and Anti-Corruption Centre (IFCACC), Financial Intelligence System (FIS), and INTERPOL Brazil.

INTERPOL noted that the Silver Notice pilot project, launched in January 2025, is designed to help member countries trace and recover criminal assets linked to major international offenders.

The arrest of Ikechukwu N. underscores growing international collaboration in combating cyber-enabled financial crimes and reinforces INTERPOL’s commitment to dismantling organized criminal networks across borders.
