US-based diaspora group donates vehicles to support Oyo State gubernatorial candidate

The Oriyomi Support Group USA has donated three branded campaign vehicles to Oriyomi Hamzat’s gubernatorial campaign team, marking a significant show of support from American-based supporters for his 2027 election bid in Oyo State.
The donation, presented in Ibadan on Thursday, reflects what organizers describe as a commitment from diaspora supporters to strengthen grassroots outreach across the state ahead of next year’s gubernatorial election.
“We have followed and monitored Oriyomi Hamzat’s work in our community for years,” said Mrs. Toyosi Oladipo, Coordinator of the Oriyomi Support Group USA, based in Catonsville, Maryland. “As a philanthropist and a strong advocate for social justice, we believe he will accomplish even more as governor of Oyo State in 2027.”
The vehicle donation addresses a documented logistical challenge facing campaign organizations in the state. According to a statement from the support group, “OSG-USA recognizes the logistical challenges campaign teams face in reaching the far corners of the state without adequate means of transportation.”
Alhaja Rashidat Aina, Coordinator II of OSG-USA, characterized the vehicles as instrumental to the campaign’s reach. “This donation is a powerful symbol of solidarity from Dr. Hamzat’s dedicated supporters in the United States,” Aina said. “It reflects the enduring connection between us and our homeland, particularly Oyo State. Transportation plays a critical role in political campaigns, and we believe these vehicles will help the campaign team reach more grassroots communities across the state.”
While commending and appreciating the donors, Hamzat assured the people of Oyo State of inclusive governance system if elected.
“Thank you for this first batch of vehicle donation from the USA. I believe more are coming soon from some of my disapora support groups and individuals in France, UK, Germany and many other countries” said the Accord Party gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State, Oriyomi Hamzat. “I told you I don’t have money buy I have great people around me. I will surely not disappoiint you because I will be the voice of the masses as the governor of this state if elected.”
The Oriyomi Support Group USA, established as a volunteer-led organization, mobilizes members through advocacy, community outreach, and fundraising initiatives. According to its statement, the group has committed to advancing Dr. Hamzat’s vision of “inclusive leadership and grassroots development” in Oyo State.
The donation represents one of the most visible investments by diaspora supporters in the 2027 Oyo State gubernatorial race. Diaspora political engagement in Nigeria has increased significantly in recent electoral cycles, though such investments raise questions about campaign finance oversight and the role of foreign-based funding in domestic elections.
The vehicles are expected to enhance the campaign’s ability to conduct grassroots outreach and engage communities throughout the state during the critical months leading to the 2027 election.
