Man dies after attempt to jump into taxi window
A 47-year-old man was killed early Tuesday morning after he attempted to jump into the window of a yellow cab in Times Square.
“Edgar Castillo lunged at the window on the driver’s side of the cab just after 4 a.m. at Seventh Ave.” cops said.
“Apparently rattled, the cabbie took off, going south on Seventh with Castillo still dangling from the window,” they added.
Castillo, who fell to the pavement near 44th St. Medics, was found on the ground and rushed to St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital. But he couldn’t be saved.
The cabbie fled the scene, and Police are still looking for him.
Castillo’s sister, Luisa Castillo, 35, said she wasn’t sure what to make of her brother’s alarming death.
“He was a construction worker. He was not the type of person to jump on the top of a cab or do anything weird. He spent many years in jail in Virginia, and he knew how to appreciate life,” she said.
“We’re all shaken by this. Today is his daughter’s 18th birthday. The family is coming up from Florida,” she added.
Luisa Castillo said she wanted to wait for the autopsy results.
“We’re hearing all kinds of crazy stories. We don’t know what to believe,” she said.
