Nigeria: Gunmen kill 11 soldiers in Benue State
Gunmen have killed 10 Nigerian soldiers and an officer in central Benue state.
This was disclosed in a statement on Friday April 9, 2021, by the Nigerian army spokesperson, Mohammed Yerima, stated.
In his words, “Nigerian Army troops operating in Benue State came under attack while on routine operational task.”
Nigeria’s security forces are battling on several fronts – a more than decade-long armed uprising in the northeast, criminal gangs in the northwest and a separatist militia in the southeast.
Benue is part of Nigeria’s middle belt region, where gangs have taken up arms after years of communal clashes between herders and farmers.
