Kenyan Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Prof. George Magoha has lowered his gaze in front of a section of Muslim leaders whom he met privately to apologise over his recent bigotry remarks on a female journalist.

The meeting was held at the Director of Public Prosecution’s Office in Nairobi, later National Muslim Leaders Forum (NAMLEF) publicized what transpires in the closed door meeting, saying the CS regretted his sentiments and called for the leaders to pardon him.

“The CS apologised to us and to the lady journalist, Rukiya directly. His words were ‘you judge me and am ready to accept your verdict,” read NAMLEF statement.

NAMLEF described the apology as a display of humility and asked Muslims to forgive the CS.

This statement sent social media in Kenya into a frenzy.

“He made those remarks in front of the world and he is apologising behind closed doors,” claimed Mohammed Jamaa on facebook. “He should come before the cameras and in public and to all Kenyans,” added Nwaniki Paul.

According to NAMLEF chairman Abdillahi Abdi, the female journalist accepted the apology.

The CS made the gaffe at a critical time towards the country’s general election slated for August 9th and with a critical type of voters.

In his remarks in the current viral video the CS thought that the NTV female journalist was representing Al-Shabaab terror group because she was wearing a ‘hijab’, a garment worn by Muslim women.

Magoha was addressing journalists on education issues when he profiled the lady by asking her “…..Who are you representing? Because if you are representing Al-Shabaab I will not answer you.”

It’s still not well know if the CS comments were blown out of proportion or these utterances were well figured out.
