The Chairman of the Committee on Consumer and Worker Protection, Marjorie Velázquez, has commended President Biden’s announcement regarding his push for transparency between American consumers and entertainment ticketing platforms such as Live Nation’s Ticketmaster.

Marjorie Velazquez gave the commendation in a statement on Thursday June 15, 2023.

“Companies like Ticketmaster have been gouging New Yorkers for too long with additional fees, running up the final cost of ticket prices on sports and entertainment events,” the statement reads.

It adds, “From New York Yankees ball games to major tours like Beyonce’s Renaissance World Tour, consumers have fallen victim to their ill practices, leading to increased distrust and unrealistic resale values.

“While the New York City Council has been ahead of the national curve through the City Council’s Committee on Consumer and Worker Protection to protect New Yorkers from such quasi-monopolistic business practices through legislation that forces companies to disclose service fees upfront, more can be done.”

Valenzuela appreciated President Biden for his national efforts in addressing this consumer rights issue and for putting pressure on companies like Ticketmaster to be more transparent with consumers about the final costs of purchases.
