New York pollution remains hazardous, no end in sight for Canada wildfire smoke
New York City’s air quality has remained in the “very unhealthy” category a thick smoke continues pours south from Canada’s devastating wildfires.
With no end in sight for the Quebec wildfires, air pollution would persist into Thursday and possibly the weekend, according to forecasters.
On Wednesday, New York City was enveloped in an eerie orange glow reminiscent of a scene from a science-fiction movie. As a result, schools along the East Coast canceled outdoor activities, Broadway shows came to a halt, and flights were grounded. The following morning, the Big Apple continued to suffer from the world’s most severe air quality issues.
Air quality alerts have been issued in at least 13 states, affecting an estimated 115 million individuals. The impact is a direct consequence of over 400 wildfires currently raging across Canada, prompting massive evacuations in Quebec province. Canadian officials have issued a grave warning, stating that this wildfire season could go down in history as the worst, with an astonishing 6.7 million acres already charred.
