Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has unveiled an upgraded AI assistant built upon new iterations of its open-source Llama large language model. The tech giant revealed that Meta AI has become smarter and faster, attributing these advancements to the latest version of Llama, known as Llama 3, in a blog post.

Mark Zuckerberg, the co-founder and chief executive of Meta, expressed confidence in the capabilities of Meta AI, asserting that it now stands as the most intelligent AI assistant available for public use. Zuckerberg conveyed this message through a video shared on Instagram.

With its open-source nature, developers outside of Meta have the freedom to tailor Llama 3 according to their preferences. Meta may then integrate these enhancements and insights into future updates of the model, fostering collaboration and innovation within the developer community.

Emphasizing the potential of generative AI technology, Meta highlighted its commitment to responsible development and deployment. The company underscored the importance of mitigating risks associated with AI, particularly when integrating generative AI features into its suite of platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger.

Meta is streamlining the accessibility of Meta AI across its applications, integrating it directly into the search boxes of WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram Messenger. Zuckerberg elaborated on this effort in the video, emphasizing the ease with which users can now interact with Meta AI for queries and assistance.

Despite occasional challenges such as AI “hallucinations,” Meta remains dedicated to refining and enhancing Meta AI. By gradually integrating AI capabilities into its apps, Meta aims to leverage its extensive user base for testing and refining AI experiences, ensuring meaningful and accurate interactions for billions of users worldwide.
