US President Joe Biden openly criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, asserting that the Israeli leader is not doing enough to secure a ceasefire in Gaza. The brief but pointed comment came as Biden spoke with reporters outside the White House, marking one of the most direct public criticisms he has made of Netanyahu since the Gaza conflict began nearly a year ago.

When asked if Netanyahu was doing enough to reach a ceasefire deal with Hamas, Biden replied with a simple, “No.” The stark response underscores the growing impatience within the Biden administration as it works to finalize a proposal aimed at ending the violence and securing the release of Israeli captives held in Gaza.

Biden also hinted that the US is nearing the completion of a final ceasefire proposal, saying, “We’re very close” to presenting a plan that could potentially resolve the deadlock. His criticism of Netanyahu, even if delivered off the cuff, signals a significant shift in tone, highlighting the increasing pressure on the Israeli government to take more decisive action toward peace.

The remark is likely to resonate both in Washington and Tel Aviv, where Netanyahu faces growing domestic and international scrutiny over his handling of the conflict. Biden’s public disapproval may further strain the relationship between the two leaders, as calls for a ceasefire intensify.
