Chinese Ambassador to the United States, Xie Feng, has called for a renewed focus on cooperation between the two global powers during his address at the 2024 Gala Dinner of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations (NCUSCR).
“To take the China-U.S. relationship forward, it is important to tackle challenges with greater courage,” Xie emphasized, urging both nations to leverage their collective wisdom to navigate current tensions. His remarks highlighted the long-standing history of U.S.-China cooperation, which he said has often resulted in “win-win outcomes” benefiting global peace and stability.
Touching on the sensitive issue of Taiwan, Xie reiterated China’s stance, underscoring that safeguarding peace in the Taiwan Straits requires strict adherence to the one-China principle and rejection of “Taiwan independence.”
Despite ongoing challenges in the bilateral relationship, Xie expressed optimism, recognizing the NCUSCR’s consistent efforts since its founding in 1966 to foster dialogue and cooperation, even in times of hostility. “Those who keep caring for and supporting the relationship always abound,” he said.
