Biden's dog, commander, involved in multiple attacks on Secret Service Personnel

In a recent release of federal documents by the Department of Homeland Security, it has come to light that President Biden’s German Shepherd, Commander, has been involved in a series of attacks on Secret Service personnel. The documents, obtained by the conservative group Judicial Watch through a Freedom of Information Act request, detail ten alleged incidents that occurred over a four-month period from October 2022 to January 2023.

While none of the injuries sustained during these attacks were serious, they have raised concerns among the Secret Service officers who were targeted by the aggressive canine. The incidents ranged from biting to charging at officers, with some needing medical attention as a result.

One such incident occurred in the presence of First Lady Jill Biden on October 26, 2022, where Commander charged at an unnamed Secret Service officer, who described the dog’s behavior as “extremely aggressive.” The officer expressed concerns that an agent could be attacked or bitten in the future.

Unfortunately, the prediction became a reality on November 3, 2022, when another officer reported being bitten twice by Commander in the White House. This incident required medical treatment for the injured officer.

Even in the presence of President Biden, an attack took place on December 11, 2022, in the Kennedy Garden of the White House. An agent was bitten on the forearm and thumb after Commander was taken off his leash. The officer received treatment from White House medical personnel but continued their duties professionally.

The incidents continued, with another officer being bitten on the arm on December 23, 2022, while the first family was returning from the tennis pavilion of the White House. Fortunately, the officer’s clothing prevented any lasting marks.

In a final incident on January 2, 2023, at President Biden’s home in Wilmington, Delaware, Commander bit a Secret Service officer on the lower right side of their back while they were speaking with a guest at the front door. This time, medical attention was not required.

Commander was gifted to the Bidens in December 2021, following the passing of their other German Shepherd, “Champ.” Prior to this, the Bidens’ other German Shepherd, Major, had also been involved in biting incidents.

Responding to these concerning events, a statement provided by Elizabeth Alexander, a spokesperson for the first lady, assured that the White House has been working closely with the Secret Service and Executive Residence staff to implement additional leashing protocols and training for Commander. They are also establishing designated areas for the dog to run and exercise.

In a separate statement, Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi mentioned that managing the presence of family pets in the White House has been an ongoing process, and they continuously collaborate with all relevant parties to minimize any adverse impacts in the environment involving pets.
