LNA arrests ISIS commander in Ubari
Libyan National Army has arrested one of the Islamic State commanders, Mohammed Mailed Mohammed.
The Spokesman for the Libyan National Army (LNA), Major General Ahmed Al-Mismari, confirmed the arrest of Muhammed, who is also known as ‘Abu Omar’.
In a statement, the spokesman said that the arrest of Abu Omar, who is one of the most prominent leaders of ISIS in Sirte, is considered a major win for the LNA in its war against terrorism.
He added that the arrested ISIS commander has previously waged many terrorist operations.
Al-Mismari said the most notable was the attack on the Oil Crescent, during which he was shot in the abdomen, and he was taken for treatment at Al-Jufra and then he returned to the city of Sirte.
Al-Mismari stated that Abu Omar had a strong relationship with Abu Moaz al-Iraqi, the ISIS leader in Libya, who was killed in the city of Sebha in a military operation carried out by the LNA forces in September last year.
“The militant returned to Ubari after the defeat of the ISIS in Sirte, where he formed a terrorist cell in the city of Ubari and waged many terrorist operations.
“One of the operations included the kidnapping of four Italian engineers in 2016, when demanded a ransom of four million euros in exchange for their release, Al-Mismari said.
ISIS has made incursions into Africa, especially through the ISIS in West Africa Province (ISWAP), a splinter of Boko Haram, which has an affiliation to it.
