Khalid Latif celebrates Giving Tuesday, announces $155,000 support fund to assist survivors of domestic violence
Khalid Latif has announced the $155,000 support fund raised to assist survivors of domestic violence in the last few months.
While making the announcement via his Facebook page on Tuesday December 1, 2020, Latif stated that the support fund was part of the global celebration of Giving Tuesday.
“Today marks Giving Tuesday, a day in which people from all over the world come together to celebrate generosity and giving – both of which are hallmark characteristics of our beautiful community,” Latif wrote on his Facebook page, adding that these last few months alone are a testament to that.
“We came together and raised $155,000 to support survivors of abuse in October as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
“We came together and raised $360,000 to provide 18,000 families with Udhiya/Qurbani meat in August.
“We came together and raised $1,208,419 to provide rapid response COVID-19 relief grants to families, individuals and survivors in NYC during Ramadan.
“We came together and raised $194,583 to provide assistance to funeral homes and and families that had lost loved ones during the highpoint of the pandemic in NYC in April,” he said.
He added, “And we came together and raised $600,000 to provide assistance to individuals and families throughout the United States in the immediate onset of COVID-19 in late March.”
He continued, “All of us coming together yielded more than 40,000 donations and helped us raise $2,518,002 to assist people in their time of need.
“Today I’m asking you to come together and give to our community so that we can continue doing the work that we do inshallah.”
Latif therefore urged people to consider making a tax-deductible donation at https://www.nyu.edu/giving/give-now/?cid=25 and encourage others to as well.
“You can sign up to be a monthly donor, make a one time gift, and even have your gift matched by your employer.
“Whatever option you choose, please be sure to make a donation in whatever amount you can. Like many other non-profits, we are not raising as much as we would in a normal year and our hope is to raise $50,000 to help meet our operational expenses.
“May Allah bless you and your loved ones and make our community a continued source of help and healing for His creation. Ameen,” he concluded.
