Ten-year-old girl escapes ice cream truck abduction in NYC
A 10-year-old girl has escaped an ice cream truck abduction in New York City. A Staten Island ice cream truck driver pulled a 10-year-old girl into his vehicle and drove off with her Sunday, though the little victim managed to escape, according to police.
The girl was walking to a deli when the man stopped and approached her on Harbor Road and Forest Ave. in Mariners Harbor sometime in the afternoon, cops said.
He then grabbed her by the wrist and forced her into the truck.
The girl was in it for about a mile before she was able to break free near Richmond Terrace and Union Ave. around 4:40 p.m., police said.
She ran until she found someone who let her use a phone to call her mom.
Police immediately began canvassing the area and located the truck and driver, who was taken into custody.
The girl and the driver are strangers, cops said.
She and her mother were reunited and are helping police as they continue to investigate the terrifying incident.
