CDPA appoints Karim Chowdhury as Chairman of Labor Committee

The Executive Board of Richmond County Democratic Party has appointed ASAAL National Secretary, Mohammed Karim Chowdhury, as the chairman of Labor Committee.

This was disclosed in a statement on Sunday October 30, 2022, by
Vice President ASAAL Staten Island Chapter, Abou Sy Diakhate.

“It is not surprising but a well deserved appointment for Mr. Chowdhury as the first chair of prestigious & influential Labor Committee,” Diakhate wrote.

Diakhate described Mr. Chowdhury as one of the most effective, efficient and influential political organizers and coalition builders in Staten Island.

“He has been using his labor/ Union organizing skills and community activism skills to empower working class Staten Islanders for last several years,” Diakhate said.

He noted that Chowdhury and ASAAL members played an important role in diversifying the democratic party in Staten Island bringing labors and minorities in party leadership roles.

“He and his team plays an important role during pandemic distributing hundreds of thousands of face masks, hand sanitizer bottles and food boxes in Staten Island and other four boroughs of the city under ASAAL banner.”

He asserted that ASAAL members in Staten Island and around America under his dynamic leadership played a vital role making sure the most vulnerable groups of our communities are counted or participated in census 2020.

“Mr. Chowdhury became the Executive Board Member of Richmond County Democratic Party in 2018 and has been holding a position as Judicial delegate from AD 61.

“He was the only South Asian American elected as the DNC delegate from CD11-New York on Biden- Harris slate in 2019.

“Mr. Chowdhury is involved in many labor movements including NYS PEF Executive Board member, sits on several statewide union positions including PEF delegate to NYC CLC.

“Mr. Chowdhury was named by City & State as power 100 in Staten Island in 2021,” Diakhate concluded.
