New York City Mayor Adams has suggested to subway riders not to wear headphones in subway due to crime. While also admitting he doesn’t wear headphones in the subway, he says no one should so they can be aware to avoid crime.

During his interview on Good Day New York show, the mayor encourages subway riders to take their headphones out and put their phones away in order to stay aware of the mass transit system.

When Bianca Peters said: “I rode the subway yesterday. I haven’t put my air pods in for over a year because I feel like I need to be very much aware. That’s a quality of life issue.” Mayor Adams responded, “I think that you are right about, you know, not having your iPods and not focusing on phone. And I say yes to that, I do the same and we put out a video and information telling people about being aware of what’s around them and what’s taking place. I encourage New Yorkers to do that.

As subway crimes continue to rise in and plague New York City, Mayor Eric Adams has been accused of doing the bare minimum to prevent violence in the city’s subway system. This is as a result of series of violent crimes having New Yorkers feeling on edge about using mass transit.
