New York City is known for its bustling streets and congested traffic. However, the city has taken a bold step toward sustainability by hosting its largest-ever Open Streets celebration on Earth Day.

The event aims to promote activism and education surrounding climate change, sustainability, and more sustainable modes of transportation. The New York City Department of Transportation is set to kick off the 2023 Open Streets and Public Space Programming season in style.

On the 53rd anniversary of Earth Day, the department will host its largest-ever Open Streets celebration in 30 locations across the five boroughs.

The Car-Free Earth Day event aims to encourage New Yorkers to leave their cars at home and enjoy the city’s parks, plazas, and expanded network of Open Streets.

With the support of Lyft, Citi Bike will offer free one-day passes to all riders, and riders can take advantage of the offer by using the promo code CARFREE23 in the Citi Bike app.

The celebration will include community programming such as performances, fitness trainings, giveaways, and educational activities. This event serves as a reminder that reducing our carbon footprint is crucial, and everyone must play a part in preserving our planet.
