New York City Mayor Eric Adams and City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams have announced a $52 million investment in the city’s schools and youth programs.

The funding will protect important long-term programs previously funded with federal stimulus dollars, expand summer programming for young people, and maintain stability for school budgets.

The investment includes:

– $32 million to protect programs such as computer science education, restorative justice, and civics education
– $20 million to extend summer programming for middle school students
– $75 million to maintain school budgets and prevent cuts due to declining enrollment

The announcement builds on the Adams administration’s record of investments in education, including teacher raises, funding for class size reduction, and support for early childhood education.

“This investment is a testament to our commitment to the future of our city and our children,” said Mayor Adams. “We are investing in programs that will help our young people succeed and thrive.”

Speaker Adams added, “This funding will help to address the learning loss and social isolation that our students have experienced during the pandemic. It will also provide critical support to our schools and teachers.”

The investment has been welcomed by education advocates and school leaders, who say it will help to ensure that all students have access to high-quality education and resources.

“This funding will make a real difference in the lives of our students and their families,” said Schools Chancellor David C. Banks. “We are grateful for the support of the Mayor and the City Council.”
