Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole secured his inaugural American League Cy Young Award with unanimous support from all 30 first-place votes, marking a pinnacle in his impressive career.

Cole’s stellar season, marked by a 15-4 record, an AL-low 2.63 ERA, and 222 strikeouts in 209 innings, solidified his place as the league’s top pitcher. The last Yankees pitcher to achieve such an honor was Roger Clemens in 2001.

Meanwhile, the National League witnessed Blake Snell’s ascent to Cy Young glory as he claimed the accolade for leading the majors in ERA while playing for the San Diego Padres. Overcoming a challenging start, Snell finished the season with a 14-9 record, a remarkable 2.25 ERA, and 234 strikeouts in 180 innings. Notably, he became the seventh pitcher to clinch the Cy Young in both leagues, joining a prestigious group of baseball legends.

Despite Snell’s outstanding performance, the Padres faced a disappointing season, concluding with an 82-80 record, the third-highest payroll in baseball notwithstanding. As a free agent after the World Series, Snell declined a $20,325,000 qualifying offer from the Padres, opting to explore potentially more lucrative contracts in the market.

The Cy Young announcement marked a historic moment for both Cole and Snell, affirming their dominance on the pitching mound and etching their names in baseball lore.
