China’s CSCES, Siemens Energy to renovate Baiji power plant
The Iraqi cabinet decided on Tuesday to sign a tripartite agreement to rehabilitate the Baiji Gas Fired Power Plant 2 in Salah Al-Din governorate north of the capital, Baghdad.
The agreement will be signed between the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, Siemens Energy, and the China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), a Chinese state-owned construction company headquartered in Beijing.
CSCES will be the project’s primary contractor, Siemens Energy will be the secondary contractor, and the Electricity Ministry will be responsible for securing governmental authorizations, according to the agreement.
As the project’s primary contractor, CSCES will be in charge of the project’s finances as well as the provision and installation of all the supporting components and auxiliary systems of the power plant required to produce electricity.
The primary equipment, including the control centers, gas turbines, electric generators, and electrical transformers, will be set up by Siemens Energy.
The German company will also oversee the project’s implementation to guarantee that the process complies with Siemens’ international specifications.
The Baiji Gas Fired Power Plant 2 uses combined cycle gas turbines. The power plant has dual fuel capability. Natural gas will be the power plant’s main source of energy, but if natural gas supplies are low, the facility will run on heavy fuel oil.
